Twisted Magic Volume 1 Twisted Books 111 Audible Audio Edition Jo Ho Allyson Voller Books Reviews

  • Since I’ve already read all these episodes individually, I just had to get the paperback version. First ‘cause it’s so pretty in person and secondly, I just LOVE having these on hand to reread again and again. This set contains the first eleven books of the Twisted series. The story follows four girls who find themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time and happen to awaken magical powers within themselves. As they struggle to find out what is happening to them, they are on a constant race to outsmart a demon who is causing havoc on his quest to destroy the world. I love this series because it not only has a magical mystery with twists and turns, but the author also keeps you engaged with tidbits of each girl’s personal life as well. I can’t wait for the second season!

    Final Rating 5 Stars
  • I enjoyed the read. Fun, complex characters that felt like friends.
  • The Twisted Saga books 1-11 is the epitome of a book made for TV. This series is written as a TV series with each book being a week’s installment. All I can say is WOW!!!!! Jo does it again. Her descriptive writing creates imagery that really puts you in the scene. I LOVE THIS STORY!!!!!! The scenes are so descriptive and freaky in a good way. I could picture the scenes and where they would put the breaks and everything. Descriptive scenes put the reader in the story as we (well I) find ourselves talking to the characters as if they could hear us. Each of the girls and even Christian is completely relatable.
The girls, Cassie, Eve, Taylor, and Marley, are coming into more knowledge and learning how bad habits can lead to bad trouble and weaknesses are openings for bad. Some of the girls are becoming stronger in their powers and others are finding out what they can with their powers other than make mistakes. Jo Ho continues to develop the characters, both main and supporting, in such way that the reader is anxious to what will happen next.
Who is this 5th member of the coven???? Who can the girls really trust??? Will they ever really learn to trust and work together or are they destined to fail??
I love how Jo Ho has turned coming of age into a powerful metaphor of fantasy, magic, mystery, and intrigue that everyone would love to read or WATCH WEEKLY(HINT HINT PRODUCERS).
Every single girl if honest with herself should be able to relate to these girls. These college girls are not just silly girls who immediately bond because they are in the same dorm and roommates. They each have their own baggage who makes them leery of the others. As the story develops things happen that change how much they trust each other until finally they are almost forced to trust at least a bit. The girls are slowly realizing that they need to be careful what they wish for and that they need to decide what route their powers will take them. The "Trouble" is so encompassing as each girl comes into more turmoil both with their powers and their lives as a whole.
Just as all young adults start to come into their own without really understanding how they can become an adult, which is scary, while not wanting to lose themselves. We all go through this time in our lives, often multiple times, when we want to turn to a loved one but a) don't see how they could ever possibly understand since they never had it this bad and b) not wanting to worry or bother them. Who all really knows of their powers?? How much of what has happened to them has been orchestrated by a greater power??

I love the mystery Jo Ho adds to each book. While she exposes a little bit more about each girl, she also leads us to more questions. Being older I have to remind myself of what my friends and I were like as freshmen in college when I read how the girls are acting. Part of me is wanting to tell them to knock it off and then I remember they are still growing as humans and have only just been thrown this added responsibility. Everything I was expecting was turned upside down as this story gets even more twisted than even I could imagine. Just as in real life, the girls took so much for granted and are now paying the price. There is no way anyone could read what happens and not be affected and want to scream, "NOOOOOOOO!!!"
Jo Ho brings everything to this story. Her writing brings all the characters to life. Just as with any season cliffhanger I can't wait until the story continues.
If anyone in the TV industry is reading this, YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO MAKE A SHOW OUT OF THIS SERIES.!!!!!!
  • This outstanding book series is written in a TV series format. Each book represents a week's episode. I'm a huge fan of the old "Charmed" TV series and "Vampire Diaries". I"m delighted to find a new series that I enjoy so much. I absolutely loved everything about this series.

The narration was well done and brought the story to life.

The story is about four girls, Marley, Cassie, Taylor, and Eve. There are multiple points of view being shown so we get a good idea of what is going on and how each character feels about multiple situations. There is usually cliffhangers at the end of each book and a major cliffhanger in the last book as well. I'm hoping this book will become a TV series, because I know I would absolutely love it! I was hooked from book 1 and I'm so looking forward to volume number two!

The author does an excellent job developing the characters and describing situations where you feel like you are part of the story. This is a new author for me, but I'm definitely going to look up more of her books. I really enjoyed her writing style.

  • I really enjoyed this collection! It pulled me in from beginning to end and I absolutely need the next ones! This is written like a TV show. Every book is like an episode. And yes, just like TV, it does leave you hanging book to book, sometimes worse than others. I really enjoyed the way that it was written. It flowed very well, had plenty of action and intrigue to hold my attention the entire time. I loved getting to know the characters as well as we did. We change character point of views often. We even get to follow around some of the bad guys and get into their heads as well. There are plenty of twists and turns that keep you guessing on what's going to happen next. There has not really been any sex in the books, just some kissing for the most part. This would be appropriate for teen/young adult readers.
I was very happy to have been reading these in the collection because I absolutely wanted to continue to the next book every time. I had to know what was going to happen next. This story does end on a cliffhanger. I desperately need the next books to find out what is going to happen and how things are going to be resolved. I loved that the story is so long because we really get to know the characters and get plenty of details. The pacing is fantastic as well. Everything keeps moving forward and never felt like the details were just dragging things out. Hopefully the next books are coming very soon!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
