Underestimated Too Volume 2 Jettie Woodruff 9781499228878 Books Reviews

  • I must be sick. I’m still reading this book after the first chapter. It is HEAVY domestic violence not to mention lewd and lascivious, and I’m gobbling it up. THANK GOD I decided to read this book!

This book could cause TIGGERS for some. If you find you are that kind of person, i think you might want to go to another book. But if you are checking this book out - then you have obvs. read the 1st book and you already know what you are getting into - SO GO FOR IT!!!

I did not give Underestimated a good “Star Rating.” HOWEVER, I did give it a nice healthy review (on Goodreads). Basically, I loved the first 50% -60% of the book. The flashbacks, HEAVY domestic violence, the DARK past of Morgan’s life with Drew, how she was trying to build a new life, her constant fear of being found, the car crash, the life back with Drew, the evolution of their relationship, the SEX, the TRUTH! ALL OF THAT, I LOVED! So this book… had ALL OF THAT! Squeal.

We pick up on Morgan & Drew’s life and see right away there is some serious trouble and apparently the OLD DREW is back.
All the hang ups I had about the first book (the drawn out love triangle, forgiving her ma too quickly, etc.) wasn’t here…I didn’t have to deal with any of it. For me this book was perfect, but I like dark reads. And I would for sure classify this as a dark read (the domestic violence alone! – holy s***!). I loved hearing it all from Drew’s POV. I thought the way the author laid the book out was great – having them go to a couple’s psychologist and give us flashbacks (this author is the Queen of flashbacks!) – Genius! Yes, Drew is wife beater, yes he is an controlling Alpha Male in a really, really bad way…but through the magic of words the author carefully used, we grew to love him more (if that’s possible) and (GULP) understand him and the love his love for Morgan (because at the end of the day – you cannot say Drew did not love Morgan). This is the best way to explain how much I loved this book – I want to re-read Underestimated (knowing I HATED the last portion of that book) and then reread Underestimated Too all over again!

Thank you Mrs. Woodruff for doing this series right (IMO) and bringing back a fan!
  • If I thought that Drew and Morgan had magically resolved their issues after the conclusion of 'Underestimated', I couldn't have been more wrong. The honeymoon phase is once again over and Drew has quickly resorted to his old patterns of control and abuse. Morgan has once again become the enabling, battered wife. To say that their relationship is dysfunctional would be an understatement of epic proportions.

'Underestimated Too' provides a recap of the events from Book 1, primarily told from Drew's POV, as the couple attempts to face their past and present issues in therapy. As Drew recounts his life story, his personal experiences as a victim of abuse come to light. Hearing his story, it is clear that this cycle of abuse began long before Morgan ever entered the picture. Although his actions are inexcusable, I gained a much better understanding of Drew and why he acted the way he did. There were several times that I felt bad for Drew, even though I was simultaneously abhorred by his own behavior.

Morgan has her own issues to face when it comes to their relationship. The book doesn't focus as much on her contributions to their pattern of abuse, but while nobody deserves to endure the abuse she's been put through, she's no angel either. Morgan seems more defeated in this book than she did in the first. It was like she'd lost her fight and was now making excuses for him. Even though 'Underestimated Too' seems to conclude their story nicely, I wonder if there will be another book addressing Morgan's enabling, and quite often provoking, behaviors.

This book has dark elements, including violence, humiliation, dubious consent/non-consensual sexual acts, emotional/physical/sexual abuse, etc. Be prepared to revisit a relationship much more similar to the one at the beginning of book 1 than the loving relationship portrayed closer to the end of 'Underestimated'. Old habits die hard. If you can't handle reading about these topics, this story will not be for you. In many ways, I thought it was a darker book than the first.

Since I love stories with dark undertones, it was right up my alley! I felt like this book provided closure and answered many remaining questions from 'Underestimated'. It was a great story and emotionally charged. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed book 1.
  • More Drew and Morgan...I loved it! This was a very interesting sequel. This was suppose to be Drew's point of view of what happened between him and Morgan. However, this book was so much more. It was creative for Jettie Woodruff to have Drew recount his POV during his 'talks' with Deidre and Morgan. I did not feel like I was re-reading word for word 'Underestimated' again. I hate when authors produce a POV that is an exact rewrite of events from the original book. This story gave me Drew's POV, a continuation of present day life between Drew, Morgan, baby Nicklaus and friends and family. I would say, it was Drew's POV and an extended epilogue woven together. Genius writing! We finally learned about Drew's family, his childhood and Morgan's family, Drew's feelings when Morgan left, what he did while she was in Maine, and the Dawson drama (eye rolling), etc. It was all there and then some. What a hot mess!!! I'm still trying to process all of it.

After finishing this book, I totally understood more about the relationship between Drew and Morgan. They both owned their relationship and it worked for them. I loved that they embraced what they liked and did not apologize for it. Glad Drew and Morgan's characters remained almost the same (no flipping to a vanilla couple). Thanks Jettie for giving fans of 'Underestimated' a sequel that surpassed expectations! I could (and will) read this one over and over again!!
